If we were to make a list of all of the misogynistic things Tyrese has said, tweeted or posted in the past few years, it would take a while. Before social media and the reemergence of TGT, he was just a singer who occasionally did a little acting. But once he discovered this new platform, he fashioned himself a relationship expert. And as Black men often do, all of his advice was directed toward women. And we can assume that because so much of his following is Black women, there’s no other conclusion to make than that he was speaking to us.
His comments have gone largely unchecked, aside from the disparaging articles we’ve published. But last week, when BET released a video of singer/actor speaking about hoes, sluts, skeezers, the internet responded with righteous ire. The backlash was so strong that perhaps Tyrese finally got the message. And in response, he issued a lenghty apology on his Instagram page.
I have to admit, I started reading this apology with the assumption that it was going to be some bullsh*t. But even I have to admit that it seemed both well thought out and sincere. Still, I’m no fool. I’ll regard these words with caution and wait for Black Ty to show and prove.
