Signs You’re Burnt Out

[caption id="attachment_826216" align="alignleft" width="1068"] Bigstockphoto.com/Tired woman covering her ears with a duvet while looking at her alarm clock[/caption] There is a strange sensation that is hard to pin-down. You have a hard time focusing or solving problems, even though there isn’t anything in particular on your mind. You feel deeply exhausted, even though you’re sleeping enough (well, almost enough) every night. You’re mentally checked out as if you’re watching your body from the ceiling. You don’t have the flu, you’re not sleep-deprived, and you’re not depressed. Ah: you’re burnt out! Or about to be if you don’t make some changes. People, especially ambitious ones, are very stubborn. We like to believe that if we follow certain protocol, live a healthy lifestyle and find that proper caffeine to water ratio, that we can just go-go-go, but burnout is a real thing and you can’t ignore it. Here are signs you're experiencing it. [caption id="attachment_701574" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You’ve become pessimistic

Your nature isn’t a pessimistic one, but lately, it seems like your brain only knows how to go down that path. You barely have access to the part of your brain that can see silver linings.         [caption id="attachment_702158" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You cannot focus

You cannot retain new information, you lose your train of thought, and you generally feel that your thoughts are in a million places at once, or really no place at all.           [caption id="attachment_611081" align="alignleft" width="423"] Corbis Images[/caption]

Social plans irritate you

Rather than seeing social plans as things that revitalize and uplift you, you see them as one more responsibility. You see friends as more people who need something from you (even if it’s just to hang out).

Sometimes you feel nothing at all

You can truly say that sometimes, you feel nothing at all. You’ve never experienced it before, but you have feelings of numbness. You aren’t depressed—you’re nothing.       [caption id="attachment_704658" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Not even your dreams excite you

Visualizing your dreams becoming a reality no longer excites you. The process of getting to them has become so tedious that they are fogging your excitement and drive.       [caption id="attachment_706853" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

You have no willpower in the health department

You eat whatever you want, you do not exercise, and you generally won’t lift a finger or make an effort to make the healthier choice. And what’s more is that you don’t even feel bad about it.       [caption id="attachment_625908" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You don’t care if you put on weight

You put on weight due to your unhealthy choices, and you aren’t even bothered by that. Really, your physical appearance is just starting to reflect your internal feelings of sluggishness and weight. [caption id="attachment_713803" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

You feel unsettled at night

Burnout typically comes with feelings of not doing enough, no matter how much you do. Your efforts begin to feel fruitless, which can leave you unsettled at night, rather than feeling good after a long day’s work.       [caption id="attachment_693979" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You've become testy

People have begun to walk on eggshells around you because your reactions have become unpredictable. Even you sense yourself getting irritated the moment someone begins to talk to you.           [caption id="attachment_702267" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

You zone out a lot

You’ll lose minutes and even hours of time—you don’t know where you went but when you come back to the present, an hour has passed, and you didn’t register a thing that happened.             [caption id="attachment_720626" align="alignleft" width="490"] Shutterstock[/caption]

You get a lot of colds

Being burnt out takes a large toll on your immune system, making it near impossible to kick a cold or infection.   [caption id="attachment_620857" align="alignleft" width="420"] Corbis[/caption]

You forget obvious things

You find yourself driving, and completely forgetting where you were going. You wind up in the kitchen and don’t remember why you went in there. You open a blank document and don’t remember what you were going to write.     [caption id="attachment_715841" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You need to drink

You’ve never needed alcohol before, but you find yourself truly depending on it to just feel something. Without alcohol, you cannot relax or get in touch with your feelings.         [caption id="attachment_696363" align="alignleft" width="439"] Shutterstock[/caption]

You never leave work at work

You think about work all of the time. You may as well never leave the office because, emotionally and mentally, you’re always there. The times you spend at home are a blur.       [caption id="attachment_695505" align="alignleft" width="500"]woman upset, staring, angry Shutterstock[/caption]

Overall you feel unsatisfied

When you’re burnt out, it’s very hard to feel satisfied. You can’t even feel joyful about victories or enjoy praise.

19 Things Trustworthy Men Never Do

[caption id="attachment_826205" align="alignleft" width="1068"] Bigstockphoto.com/Happy beautiful couple drinking coffee and having good time in cafe[/caption] When you want to give people the benefit of the doubt, it’s hard to know how strict or lax to be, especially when it comes to dating somebody new. You try to remind yourself that you don’t know their entire back story, that it’s easy to take things out of context and that it takes time to get to know someone. On that note, you may let some things slide that rub you the wrong way. But as a human, and especially as a woman, you should listen to your intuition because it’s probably right. If a man does something that makes him seem suspicious, dishonest, or like he's in this for the wrong reasons, don’t make excuses for him; confront him about what he did or, if it’s really bad, just walk away. Because one thing is for certain, these are some things trustworthy men never do. [caption id="attachment_607975" align="alignleft" width="419"]No Love On Tinder Shutterstock[/caption]

Give no explanation

If a trustworthy man runs late or takes an unreasonably long time to return a call, he tells you why. He doesn’t just show up late, say, “Sorry I’m late” and change the subject. Trustworthy men want you always to feel secure, so they explain as much as you need them to.         [caption id="attachment_693930" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Bad-talk another woman

Trustworthy men do not go on extensively about how awful an ex-girlfriend or another date was. They understand that that’s disrespectful since that person isn’t there to defend themselves and they wouldn’t want you to worry that they may talk about you that way.       [caption id="attachment_712175" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Reschedule constantly

Trustworthy men do not reschedule constantly. If a guy has to reschedule once, fine, but if he has to do it several times when you’ve barely started dating, then that means he is easily distracted by another, more exciting thing or makes promises he can’t keep.         [caption id="attachment_717809" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Change personality around various people

People with integrity are the same person, no matter who they are around. They don’t become more pompous around coworkers to “impress” them, or more gossipy around gossipers.       [caption id="attachment_625713" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Become defensive when you tease them

When people cannot handle being teased, that means they are insecure. When people are insecure, they cannot be trusted because easing their insecurities will always come above everything else. [caption id="attachment_705333" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Share private information about other people

Like the fact that their friend’s wife is having an affair or their coworker is having money problems. Even if you never meet these people, they know that those people wouldn’t want strangers knowing their dirty laundry.       [caption id="attachment_694586" align="alignleft" width="415"] Corbis[/caption]

Only show affection privately

If a man only shows you affection in private, but in group settings treats you just like anybody else there, he cannot be trusted.           [caption id="attachment_698602" align="alignleft" width="469"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Pass a lot of judgment

Passing a lot of judgment is another form of insecurity. When men feel secure in themselves, they don’t need to criticize others a lot. When they don’t feel secure, they’ll constantly judge other people for the tiniest flaws—that could extend to you.           [caption id="attachment_702748" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Fail to confirm plans

Trustworthy men confirm plans. If you make plans with a man a week before the actual date, he will message you the day before or at least the morning of to confirm you’re still on—he won’t leave you wondering if you are.           [caption id="attachment_623909" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Say, “I don’t want to talk about that.”

Men don’t need to tell you everything on the first few dates, but if they completely run away from a topic, something is off there. Trustworthy men at least provide a brief explanation as to why they don’t want to talk about something. [caption id="attachment_220076" align="alignleft" width="500"]"Woman on the phone in bed pf" Shutterstock.com[/caption]

Make very vague plans

Trustworthy men don’t say, “We should do something sometime” or “I’ll give you a call some time.” Trustworthy men pull up their calendars, look at dates, and ask if you want to do a specific thing on a specific day. And they tell you when they will call, making themselves accountable for that call. [caption id="attachment_704630" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Stay closed off about their feelings

You can’t really trust anybody who is uncomfortable communicating their feelings. If a man can’t tell you how he feels, he is bound to make himself unhappy in a relationship, and find ways to ease that (via cheating, picking fights out of nowhere, etc…)         [caption id="attachment_698962" align="alignleft" width="421"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

“Forget” about plans

Trustworthy men don’t forget about plans—they set phone alarms, they keep calendars, and they put giant post-it notes around their place if they have to. Trustworthy people make it so that they cannot possibly forget about a plan.         [caption id="attachment_707855" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Pretend to like people they don’t like

Trustworthy people don’t pretend to like people they don’t like. They will be polite, of course, but they won’t make a grand show of pretending to be over-the-moon thrilled to see somebody they secretly despise.         [caption id="attachment_616273" align="alignleft" width="445"]Serious Question: What's The Dumbest Thing Your Husband Has Ever Done? Shutterstock[/caption]

Make promises they can’t keep

Trustworthy men will not tell you they can do something unless they’re certain they can. People who aren’t trustworthy often will make promises they can’t keep, just to get the praise and adoration making that promise gets them at the time.       [caption id="attachment_710484" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Try to get things for free

Trustworthy men don’t pretend their food was bad or there was a hair in their drink to get something free at a restaurant. In fact, most trustworthy men brush off those things even if they are true.         [caption id="attachment_716475" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Belittle people

Trustworthy men speak to everyone like they are their equal—everyone.                 [caption id="attachment_615357" align="alignleft" width="402"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Change their life goals every month

Trustworthy men have rather steadfast goals; they don’t fly from one dream to another every week. If they don’t know what they want out of life, then they don’t know who they are and they can’t be trusted.         [caption id="attachment_607288" align="alignleft" width="419"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Try to get others to pull their weight

Not only do trustworthy men not try to get others to pull their weight, but they even pull the weight of other people, on top of their own. They always think about how they can help others, and do more, rather than get out of things.

What They Really Want From A Sister? Why Uninformed Men Can’t Tell Me Nothing

My college ex and I have some pretty interesting conversations since we’ve learned how to be friends and actually communicate in our adult years. A recent text message I sent went a little something like this:

The last time we spoke, you told me I’m smart on the mouth and talk ish like “a red chick.” You said that you had never seen that before from a dark-skinned woman until me… Well, that is probably because you and the Black people who surrounded you growing up may have been raised to believe that lighter women are better or more attractive than darker women. So because of that, all the “red chicks” you came across felt validated simply because of their color. When you approached them, they had this attitude of “I’m the baddest chick.”

Now on the other hand, you have the darker girls you’ve ran across before me…. they don’t talk like I talk because those ideas of “what’s attractive” didn’t seem to include them. Think about it. Those ideas of pretty red this and yellow bone that were infused into the music of our heyday, in addition to the stereotypes embedded in their minds. So, long story short… I know better than to believe that hype and that’s why I speak and act so self-assured. I know you’re in love with the cocoa NOW, but in high school you probably were not. You probably thought the lighter, the better.  That is one of the many misconceptions that make women feel “less than.” We should be able to feel confident in every skin.

When I’m right about something that’s serious business, my ex starts a new conversation or doesn’t reply back so he won’t have to relive the literary lashing I gave him, which is why he had nothing to say to my redbone exposé. As long he knows I’m right, I can live with that. But what I can’t live with are men who don’t understand how their societal ideologies and presumptions play a role in how women view themselves, especially Black women.

I see a lot of guys on social media dragging women about getting outrageous butt enhancements. This strikes me as odd because these same men who have so much to say about botched surgeries will declare a woman a “great catch” simply because she has a big behind… Newsflash: Women who go under the knife are usually trying to measure up to what men seem to desire. Why don’t men get that? Better yet, why don’t they understand the hypocrisy of their own sayings and doings?

I follow YouTuber AdrianXpression because he gives great commentary on happenings in pop culture and politics. The Librarian, as he’s often referred to, read the hell out of French Montana for his latest Twitter rant that tried to degrade a Black woman for having “nappy hair.” French even made some wild accusations about the woman’s sexual activity. Like Adrian said, women just can’t win! If we’re not “gettin’ low” men think we’re prudes, and if we do get low they love it in the moment but try to use it as an insult later. I’ve been over it since been over it. It’s this type of foolery that makes some women say, “Screw this, I’ll just focus on my career forever!”

I also follow Blair Nash, relationship strategist and author of books Illuminating the Battlefield and Love is a Beautiful Thing, Till It Ain’t. I think this Facebook status he wrote one evening best sums up this whole fiasco:

OUR MEN SHOULD BE LEADERS! Many men create narratives built around telling women how to behave while never fixing themselves. Often times men expect women to be all these things and even want them to submit… But often have nothing to offer or anything for any woman to respect. You will attract a better woman when you are a better version of yourself.

I wholeheartedly agree, Blair. Until that happens, I can’t be bothered.

Sip Your Way To Luxurious Hair With Mane Tea

Teas are the new supplement and while we’re sure you’re flat tummy tea’d out, you just might want to sip on some Mane Tea.

As the product’s website states, “Mane Tea is an oral hair growth stimulant that promises to increase hair growth, shine and fullness,” and is pegged as an alternative “when Biotin and other supplements have failed you or are not as result forming as they once were.”

So what separates the Mane Tea from these other supplements? Well its ingredient profile is drastically different. While most hair growth pills and shampoos are infused with Bioton, amino acids, and other vitamins, the Mane Tea derives its growth stimulation from catnip, chamomile, horsetail, jasmine green tea, st 40, marigold, nettle, rosemary, sage, and thyme.

Catnip is considered a natural remedy for dandruff and also moisturizes and conditions hair when used as a leave-in soak which you can do with this tea in addition to drinking it. Similarly, horsetail has been used for the treatment of brittle nails and hair, while marigold protects cells from damage caused by free radicals, and nettle can improve scalp circulation, giving hair follicles a better chance to grow and potentially decreasing shedding.

I haven’t used the tea long enough to speak to its growth benefits, but as far as taste goes it measures up to most teas on the market with a fresh, herbal taste that would likely be enhanced by a drop of honey or lemon. And if you’re not a huge tea drinker, you can always boil a batch, let it cool, and use it as a leave-in conditioner.

After 2 Prison Stints, Public Humiliation And 7 Kids, Bernice Burgos Is The Last Person Tiny Should Be Talking To

$

Tiny is back at it. And by back at it, I mean calling out the woman her estranged husband has been spending his time with.

Bernice Burgos TI and Tiny

We told you in late March that Tiny had some words for model Bernice Burgos, who T.I. has been linked to following the couple’s split. Tiny publicly called Burgos a “side chick” after she responded to people calling her a homewrecker by saying, “always been a homewrecker? That home BEEN broken”:

Instagram Photo

And despite claiming that “silence is a virtue,” Tiny lashed out at Burgos again this week. Burgos sang Xscape’s “Just Kickin’ It” with a friend on Snapchat, in particular, the “Every man wants a woman, where him and her can just go hang” part. The ladies didn’t remember the words though, so they just stared into the camera awkwardly while bopping to the beat.

Burgos’s choice to record herself jamming to the song may not have been in spite, but who are we kidding? One has to wonder what the point of doing such a thing is, especially with a song by a woman you just had a public squabble with. Whatever the purpose, Tiny took it as clear pettiness and addressed Burgos while bragging that T.I. was with her, “his wife,” the night prior:

Instagram Photo

I’ve been rooting for Tiny since it was announced that she filed for divorce, but it’s clear that she’s not serious about getting out of a relationship that despite producing beautiful children, has also produced a lot of toxicity. I read her braggadocios statement about T.I. being in her bed, as though he’s a prize pig in this situation, and I could only feel disappointment. “She’s not going anywhere,” I said out loud. If she chooses to stay with T.I., as annoying as Burgos’s antics may or may not be, she’s the last person in this equation that Tiny would or should need to address. If it isn’t Burgos, it would or likely will be someone else.

We sometimes talk about the ways in which women attack other women for correspondences and relationships they may have with one’s man, all while ignoring the antics of the man, who more than anyone else, is supposed to do right by us. Tiny’s situation is unique in that vein because honestly, no one should want to be on the straight and narrow for a woman like her than a man like T.I. Despite whatever image they want to put out there through T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle, it’s overshadowed by the many stories, the many social media comments, the many displays of disrespect that have really been the public’s image of their marriage. And despite Tiny, an accomplished songwriter and member of the entertainment industry giving him a chance while he hustled from the bottom into the rap scene; despite the two prison sentences she stood by him through; despite the three children she birthed for him (one passed at birth), along with the three others she’s embraced as her own along with daughter Zonnique; despite publicly calling her out for the things she wears (or a lack thereof) online; despite the reported controlling behavior, including not wanting her to star on BET’s Tiny & Toya while he was imprisoned; and despite past cheating, he’s shown more loyalty to his boys than he has his wife.

She tried to put out a song and corresponding music video to warn him. She likely tried to make him jealous by dancing and canoodling with Floyd Mayweather. She filed for divorce. Basically, she’s given him ultimatums, threats, and warnings in the hopes of seeing a change. But really, it’s just jumping the gun. The pair haven’t showed up to any court proceedings, he didn’t file a response to her divorce filing, and as you can see, she’s still allowing him to be laid up in the bed with her as though all is right in the world and bedroom antics will spur a change in behavior. But here we are a day or so later, and he’s since publicly stated that they would probably be better suited as friends because he can’t cut it as a husband. Or in laymen’s terms, he doesn’t want to try and be better for a woman who has tried to overlook his non-stop slights. Instead of fighting to make things work, he would rather fight Floyd Mayweather to save his ego.

So while it might feel good to call Burgos a side chick, rub in her face that she’s not the “wife” and try to make her feel like nothing but yet another piece of a– T.I. has had but won’t keep around, Tiny ends up looking just as bad in the end. Because truly, the he’s-mine-you-may-have-had-him-once-but-I-got-him-all-the-time type of loving is not healthy, and being a ride-or-die chick is soooo 2000. Not only that, but it’s not sustainable. If it were, Tiny wouldn’t have to do as much as she has had to in order to make others believe in their relationship.

But I get it. I understand how much is tied up in their marriage, how many years they’ve spent together and how much love they have for one another (even if it’s show by him in odd ways). To tell another woman to walk away from something she holds dearly is easier said than done. So it’s fine if she is hesitant or if Tiny has since decided that she doesn’t want her marriage to end at all. However, she needs to go the private route with whatever decision she makes, because she can’t be the only one fighting for it — privately or publicly.

Aspiring Model Responds To Troll Who Said She’d Be Fire If She Had Lighter Skin

People will tell you that best internet practice dictates that trolls should be ignored. But as human beings with real feelings and emotions, that's easier said than done. Furthermore, some people need to be checked. That's what 19-year-old Cameroonian model Mimi Mbah did when pictures of her featured on the Twitter account African Beauties was met with a bit of colorist criticism. African Beauties tweeted this. And while the response was resoundingly positive and supportive, there's always one in the bunch who has no act right. That's supposed to read: "If she was lighter, she'd be [fire emoji]" She could have ignored him. But Mimi had an appropriate response. Afterward, there were even more messages of support and encouragement. See the affirmations, debates and discussion that flooded in, after Mimi defended herself. After the whole thing, Mbah told BuzzFeed News that while she wasn't surprised to receive the tweet, she was disappointed. "It's happened to me before and I think almost every dark skin girl can say the same too. I'm glad my tweet went viral because now I feel like I have a platform which I want to use to talk about things like that and give advice to other dark skin women who are going through similar situations and probably blaming themselves for it. I actually wanted people to see that colorism is still real." Veronica Wells is the culture editor at MadameNoire.com. No Kerry? You’ll Never Guess Which White Actress ABC Wanted To Play Olivia Pope

$

0

As we previously reported, in her interview with Glamour, Kerry Washington talked about how early on in Scandal, the character of Olivia Pope was pretty much fashioned to be “raceless.”

Kerry Washington Olivia Pope

“In the first season, it was as if Olivia Pope was raceless,” Washington said. “There was no denying that Olivia was a black woman, because I’m a black woman playing her in badass white trench coats that call to attention the fact that I’m not looking like anybody else on television. But we didn’t talk about her identity as a black person.”

But after reading a new Hollywood Reporter interview with Washington, Shonda Rhimes and the minds behind the hit series, it all makes sense. Olivia Pope was initially treated as a non-Black woman because ABC originally wanted the character to be just that. Rhimes attempted to put her foot down, reminding everyone that the character was based on real-life fixer, Judy Smith, who is Black. But at a time when there were no women leading a drama series on prime-time TV, the request to have Pope be Black seemed ridiculous. In fact, a specific White actress was the top choice for everyone but Rhimes.

“Nothing felt more important than the sense of outsiderness,” Rhimes said. “I didn’t know that there hadn’t been a drama series with a leading black woman for 37 years. When the show got picked up [to pilot], I got a phone call from somebody who said, ‘This would be the perfect show for Connie Britton.’ I said, ‘It would be, except Olivia Pope is black.'”

Connie Britton Olivia Pope

Britton is known for her work as the star of Nashville and the very first season of American Horror Story. She’s great (even Washington said during the interview, “This would have been a great role for Connie Britton!”), but not the right fit. Still, the network was persistent. There were questions about whether or not a Black lead could really make waves internationally.

“The network was reading us their top choices, and it was Connie and all white women,” said Linda Lowy, casting director for the series. “I panicked. Somebody finally piped up, ‘We’re going to have to redo this list.'”

Thankfully, ABC budged on their list of White actresses and let Rhimes have her Black Olivia Pope, who eventually ended up being the perfect fit for Kerry Washington.

“We tested Kerry, Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose,” said Lowy. “It was Kerry from the moment I took her to meet Shonda.”

Rhimes added, “She could talk Washington more than I could talk Washington. She was different than what I originally envisioned. We were all like, ‘Oh my God,’ because she’s tiny, cute, pretty and younger — and because she was all those things, she was aware that people would underestimate her.”

Despite whatever people may say about the series these days, we can all agree that Washington has defied possible detractors as Pope. She consistently knocks it out of the park. Connie Britton, though? Nah.

Video Girl In Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” Speaks Out Amidst Controversy

A post shared by amandla (@amandlastenberg) on

When Kendrick Lamar’s video “Humble” was released, it caused quite the discussion, of all types. With lyrics like: “I’m so f*ckin sick and tired of the photoshop. Show me something natural like afro on Richard Pryor. Show me something natural like *ss wit some stretchmarks,” It was certainly different.

There were those who loved it and thought it was revolutionary highlighting a woman with natural features, real hair and stretch marks. Then, there were those who thought that Kendrick, as a man still felt entitled to project his desires onto women. And then, there were those who felt that the lifting up of this particular phenotype, biracial with long wavy hair was extremely trite.

In the midst of all of this, Carter Kim, the 21-year-old the woman who actually starred in the video, has gotten a bit lost in the sauce. But during a recent interview with Elle, Kim spoke about the controversy, the opinions from Black women being a bit hurtful and more.

Elle writes: “Amidst all the buzz around “natural beauty” in “Humble”, Kim has barely been identified by name. Instead, she’s “that ass with stretch marks” or a “sugar brown mama with a Brazilian body wave frontal.”

Kim said, “That part is extremely frustrating. I used to get teased for my hair and told my hair is fake. I’m a little puzzled because a lot of it comes from African American women. I’m just like, why wouldn’t you empower another African American woman who’s just trying to pave the way for her career and also just represent us as women in a music video that has now gone viral. I would just think they would be happy with that, but everyone finds something.”

Despite the lyrics for the video of which she decided to be a part, she doesn’t entirely agree with Kendrick’s opinion.

” I definitely don’t shame anybody who wears them [weaves. I have a lot of people around me who wear hair and wigs and it’s a lot of fun.”

Kim also had a bit to say about her multiracial identity. She said as a multicutural actress, she’s come into contact with producer who’ve had questions. She said she’s “gotten a few different odd responses from black producers, when they’re like, ‘are you just Filipino or are you just Asian?’ A lot of people don’t really see that I am black. It’s been a journey. My mom is full Korean, but she’s adopted, so she’s very Americanized now. I am Korean, French, and African American, and that’s what I am aware of. My dad is black and French. I have gotten denied by some agencies and some projects for either being too multicultural or even being ‘too pretty’ for a role. … I’ve gotten denied for being black a few times. Surprisingly, that has happened and I have gotten ‘not black enough.'”

And as for why she decided to take part in the video, she explained: “They basically told me: ‘You are the natural girl that is represented in 2017 in the society that has a ton of imperfections, but still loves herself and still doesn’t care what anyone else thinks.’ And also: ‘You are the music video girl vixen. You are that very exotic pretty girl that the normal girl transforms into,'” she says. “I was very blind going into it.”

Sigh.

I feel for Kim Carter. It’s a bit of shame that she was dragged into this. But she has to understand that her look, the exotic, Black type is not new when it comes to music videos. And there are scads of other Black identities, dark-skinned, short, kinky-haired Black women, who are left out of that conversation. And perhaps, on set she didn’t get to hear the Richard Pryor fro lyric. Because if she had, she might have understood that her look didn’t exactly match that. And while it’s not her fault that she took a job and got paid, at 21, it’s about time she start recognizing the privilege she wields in her body.

Serious Question: Y’all Still Fying Delta And United?

United Airlines seems to have picked up where Delta Airlines left off last year, finding itself in PR fiasco after PR fiasco as a result of questionable policies and procedures.

It’s the violent removal of passenger David Dao, a 69-year-old doctor, Sunday that caused United to make headlines again just two weeks after the airline was accused of policing women’s clothing when two teen girls flying as “pass riders” were prohibited from boarding a flight because they were in violation of United’s dress code by wearing leggings. And while boycott movements always pop up after such incidents, rarely are the threats followed through. But in the case of United Airlines, the backlash from potential passengers is being taken very seriously. According to Gizmodo, “United’s market capitalization, essentially the current value of the company, has fallen by more than $750 million from $22.5 billion…At the time of publication, United’s market cap has slid to $21.70 billion.”

And while declines in Delta earnings are being attributed to literal headwinds that caused more than 3,000 flights to be canceled last week, passengers of color have also likely not forgotten some of its glaring errors over the year. First, there was the #WhatADoctorLooksLike movement that gained wings when a Delta flight crew member refused to believe a Black female doctor was a physician. And not long after, Arab American YouTube star Adam Saleh said he was removed from a Delta flight simply for speaking in Arabic.

Celebs and everyday citizens have spoken out against each airline every time one of these incidents has occurred, but the real question is will people put their money where their mouth is if they really are against each company’s policies?

To be honest, I’ve had pretty negative experiences with every American airline I’ve ever flown — some far worse than others — and while I make a concerted effort not to patronize two which I consider having the most egregious service, sometimes the choice to fly an airline or not simply comes down to the almighty dollar. An unfortunate reality, considering the dollar is the only real power passengers have to make their demands heard as airlines continue to sandbag us with fees while offering fewer amenities, and increasingly poor service at every turn.

These incidents highlight the opportunity to take back some of our power as consumers, but that’s only possible if we’re serious about getting our money’s worth. Will you still fly Delta and United Airlines?

Hacks To Make Any Healthy Food Delicious

[caption id="attachment_825490" align="alignleft" width="1068"] Bigstockphoto.com/beautiful young african american woman in the kitchen[/caption] If one of your biggest joys in life is good food, then going on a diet—even if it’s not to lose weight, but to lower your blood pressure or bad cholesterol—can be a little frightening because you think, “Then what do I have to look forward to each day?” When rich, decadent food is your happy place, and a diet threatens to take that away, you probably won’t succeed on that diet unless you can find a way to enjoy it. Unfortunately, American society has mostly taught us that more butter, more fat, more salt and more sugar equals more flavor and those are the only things that do that. But that simply isn’t true. We just need a little help from professionals. Here are taste hacks, from professional chefs, that can help make any healthy food delicious. [caption id="attachment_717603" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Add lemon to boring or bitter vegetables

If you’re charring things like celery or chard, adding a little lemon juice cancels out the bitterness and brings out the hidden sweetness in these vegetables, making them scrumptious.           [caption id="attachment_825107" align="alignleft" width="420"] Bigstockphoto.com/Nuts mix in a wooden plate[/caption]

Add candied nuts to salad

Instead of using bread crumbs, tortilla strips or wonton pieces for crunch, add candied nuts to a salad. They add healthy fats and protein, without the empty calories.         [caption id="attachment_704629" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Reduce and simmer everything

Everything is more flavorful when you reduce and simmer it. Most foods have a stronger flavor profile than we realize, but we don’t give them enough time to marinade and release their flavor before we eat them.         [caption id="attachment_719421" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Miso, rice vinegar, mirin, and lemon

This combination, whipped together, comes out with a consistency of mayonnaise, but is actually very low in calories and doesn’t contain any egg or dairy. It’s delicious on burgers and with just about any protein.         [caption id="attachment_823910" align="alignleft" width="576"] Attractive young woman is eating french fries isolated on white background.[/caption]

Use tomato paste instead of ketchup

Tomato paste is healthier than ketchup in that it doesn’t contain the long ingredients list and high sugar content, Plus, it’s so concentrated that you only need a little to get plenty of flavor. [caption id="attachment_825491" align="alignleft" width="420"] Bigstockphoto.com/Anchovies in breadcrumbs and fried in oil. Cooked and ready. Italian culinary specialties.[/caption]

Add anchovy paste

Anchovy paste is like tomato paste in that a little goes a long way. You can add it to stews, crab cakes, meat loafs and even use it as a tapenade for a burst of flavor.             [caption id="attachment_703363" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Use flavored olive oil

Flavored olive oil is a little-known secret among chefs. The additional ingredients—whether they be jalapeno or sundried tomatoes—have sat in the oil for a long time, so there’s no need to add any salt to get a huge taste blast from these products.         [caption id="attachment_627016" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Use flavored vinegar

Fig vinegar, apple cider vinegar, peach vinegar—you name it, it’s out there, and it’s salad dressing all in its own right. The darker ones, like fig vinegar, taste delicious on pot roasts and the lighter ones, like peach, bring a lot of flavor to fish. [caption id="attachment_706506" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Use coconut sugar

Coconut sugar is a natural sugar, so it won’t mess with your body the way artificial sweetener does, but it’s naturally lighter than cane sugar, and a little goes a long way.           [caption id="attachment_707059" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Use cashew cream for thickness

If you need to add thickness to mashed potatoes, creamy soup, or even a dairy-free creamy dessert, cashew cream is your ticket. It’s very thick, so you only need a tablespoon or two to make things like cream of broccoli extra thick.         [caption id="attachment_622866" align="alignleft" width="465"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Fish sauce

The ingredients list on traditional fish sauce is just anchovies and salt, but it manages to pack a lot of flavor. Add it to rice, stir-fries, tofu, noodles and any Asian fusion.             [caption id="attachment_697723" align="alignleft" width="469"] Shutterstock.com/Pesto[/caption]

Make a lighter pesto

Make pesto at home by crushing pine nuts, fresh basil, roasted garlic, lemon juice and salt and pepper together. You can leave out the parmesean cheese, or just put in a tiny amount. It’s a delicious, light pasta sauce or spread for sandwiches.           [caption id="attachment_702572" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Warm up to hot sauce

Hot sauce goes with more than just chicken wings. Add it to minestrone, chili, or really any soup to get a lot of flavor without adding tons of salt. If you put a little on fish or chicken, wrap that in foil and grill it, you’ll have all the flavor you need.         [caption id="attachment_702321" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Add curry to your vegetables, pork, and chicken

Curry isn’t as intimidating as most people think it is. You should be seasoning your lighter proteins and vegetables with it because it is low in sodium and calories and packed with flavor.     [caption id="attachment_825493" align="alignleft" width="598"] Bigstockphoto.com/Dried oregano spice in burlap bag with wooden scoop on table. Concept image for cooking with oregano[/caption]

Rub meat with oregano

Oregano can really heighten the flavor profile of meat. Make a rub with just oregano and olive oil, and smother it all over your next rump roast.     [caption id="attachment_616239" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Put cumin on your popcorn

If you’re a popcorn addict but need to cut back on butter and salt, try adding cumin to your popcorn. It’s just as if not more delicious than salt.           [caption id="attachment_822799" align="alignleft" width="900"] Credit: Bigstock[/caption]

Make ginger marinades

Mix freshly grated ginger with a little teriyaki sauce and have it with chicken or tofu. It’s zesty, sweet and rich and much healthier than things like barbecue sauce. [caption id="attachment_716707" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Sautée with vegetable broth

Sautée your vegetables in vegetable broth instead of oil. Not only is it much lighter, but vegetable broth is also cheaper than olive oil, so you can save your precious oil for your salad dressings.         [caption id="attachment_717964" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Sautéed onions and garlic on everything

If your stomach can handle the sulfur in these foods, then you should always have them on hand. Some people would say onions and garlic are the only flavors you need in your kitchen.           [caption id="attachment_695362" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Add instant coffee to smoothies

Adding just a tablespoon of instant coffee to a rather bland smoothie will give it a unique, sweet and salty flavor without adding tons of sugar or calories.         [caption id="attachment_718923" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Sprinkle orange juice over fish

Orange juice brightens up the flavor of white fish and is much healthier than things like sweet and sour sauce or cream-based sauces.

Why You Meet Someone When You Stop Looking

[caption id="attachment_826468" align="alignleft" width="1068"] Bigstockphoto.com/Beautiful fun happy smiling laughing African American couple joking laying on grass in park wearing white shirts and blue jeans.[/caption] Once you stop looking for something, you find it. This rule seems to apply to everything in life; that second shoe, the spare set of keys, that antique armoire—when you finally give up on looking for these things and focus on something else, they pop up. This rule also applies to finding a romantic partner. But there’s a little more logic and reason behind this—as for finding that stiletto three months after giving up on it, who knows why that happens. The dog must have put it there. But when you’re actively seeking a romantic partner, the entire way you think and behave changes. Naturally, how you think and behave affects your ability to A) Identify a good partner and B) Attract a good partner. Here is why you find someone, just when you stop looking. [caption id="attachment_616201" align="alignleft" width="451"] Corbis[/caption]

When you’re looking, you’re not picky

When you’re looking for someone, you find reasons to like just about anybody. You force yourself to see the attractive qualities in everyone. That sends you on dozens of dead-end dates.     [caption id="attachment_607184" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you aren’t looking, you’re selective

When you aren’t looking for someone, then you don’t see every single walking, breathing male as a prospect. Instead, only the really great, compatible guys stand out to you.   [caption id="attachment_703568" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

When you’re looking, you come off as needy

It’s a buyer’s market out there, and men want the women they perceive every man to want. When you’re looking for somebody, you can come off as needy and when you come off as needy, it’s very obvious that you haven’t gotten much male attention in a while.     [caption id="attachment_712167" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you aren’t looking, you come off as a prize

When you aren’t even considering the men around you as possible partners, you take on this very confident and attractively aloof mindset. Men read this as, “She must have so many date offers that she has to put up a bit of a wall around men.”   [caption id="attachment_706472" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you’re looking, you aren’t having fun

Going out for margaritas with girlfriends isn’t really fun if you spend the entire time scanning the restaurant for men, and asking your girlfriends if your makeup looks okay.       [caption id="attachment_715832" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you aren’t looking, you have a blast

When you stop looking for a partner, you end up more present and engaged in everything you do. This means you laugh more, you smile more, and you have more interesting conversations. Who isn’t attracted to a woman like that?     [caption id="attachment_703937" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you’re looking, you dress like it

You can’t help it; you get ready for each day as if it’s a scene in a romantic comedy. You wear these little dresses that flatter your figure perfectly, with matching accessories and flawless makeup. The whole thing screams, “Please hit on me!”     [caption id="attachment_623897" align="alignleft" width="380"] Shutterstock[/caption]

When you aren’t looking, you dress more like yourself

When you aren’t looking for a partner, the only thing you ask yourself when you get dressed is, “Do I feel happy in this? Do I feel comfortable in this?” And when you wear things you feel happy and comfortable in, you look happy and comfortable. That’s attractive.       [caption id="attachment_620945" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you’re looking, you don’t pursue your interests

When you’re looking for someone, you choose activities and destinations based on where you think the men will be. But if you’re not genuinely interested in those places, then you’ll meet men you don’t have much in common with. [caption id="attachment_705349" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you aren’t looking, you do what you love

When you stop looking for someone, then you spend more time doing what you actually love and being in places you genuinely love to be. That’s when you can meet someone you have something in common with.     [caption id="attachment_705335" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you’re looking, the pressure is on

When you’re analyzing every man you meet as a romantic partner, then you put a lot of pressure on the interactions. You’re looking at them under a microscope, and that’s just not natural—you can’t see the whole picture that way.     [caption id="attachment_702816" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you aren’t looking, you can get to know someone

When you aren’t seeing men as potential love interests then you can actually get to know them at a more natural pace. A guy can really show you who he is, in various scenarios, and then you may find yourself falling for him.   [caption id="attachment_699584" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you are looking, you spread yourself too thin

When you’re looking for someone, you end up planning too many dates with too many men and spreading yourself thin. Half of those guys might stop dating you, just because you’re too busy! The other half, well, you’re just comparing them all to each other and it’s making you dizzy.   [caption id="attachment_701815" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you aren’t looking, you can really date

When you don’t feel like you’re in a mad rush to sample every man on the market, you can really take your time with each man you date, and analyze him for who he is, and not how he compares to anyone else.     [caption id="attachment_609325" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you’re looking, you drive your friends nuts

If all you ever talk about is trying to find a man, your friends will stop inviting you out. They want to talk about other things! Now you’re stuck going to bars by yourself, and some men are put off by a woman who doesn’t appear to have friends. [caption id="attachment_610546" align="alignleft" width="502"] Shutterstock[/caption]

When you aren’t looking, you’re the life of the party

When you are just focusing on bettering yourself, having fun, socializing, learning more and growing, your friends want to be around you! So you’re invited out more, you’re invited to parties more, and you’re naturally put in more situations where you can meet somebody.

Great eyebrows are the one thing every woman desires. And while you can get them waxed at your local salon and hit up a makeup counter to have them filled in, when you wake up the next morning, it’s just you and those brows — and hopefully one or two of the tools on this list.

See, eyebrow maintenance is no joke and few of us can run to someone to have every stray hair trimmed, tweezed, or threaded to maintain perfect shape. That’s why it’s essential to have a few of these essentials in your beauty arsenal at home, depending on your preferences.

Sephora Shear Genius Eyebrow Trimmer -$11

Sometimes hairs grow too long and throw off the shape of the brow which is where these shears come into play. These angled scissors come with a detachable and reversible dual-ended comb so you can cut in the direction your hair grows on both brows.

Sephora Eyebrow Touch Up Razor Set-$15

Need to kill the stubble that’s popping up under your perfect arch but is too short to catch with tweezers? Pull out this razor set. Like the shears, it can also be used to cut long hairs. After you use the tool with the brush and comb to lay hairs straight up, use the razor to cut off the excess.

Tweezerman Special Edition Floral Sorbet: Mini Slant Tweezer-$16

Tweezing is the best way to get rid of strays because it pulls hair out directly from the root. These mini slant tweezers are perfect for hard-to-reach hairs you can’t let go between waxing and threading appointments.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Classic Stencils-$20

If you’re saying forget the salon all together and planning to arch your brows all on your own, let Anastasia guide you. The brand is known for all things brows and these stencils will help you get the shape of your dreams, just like the stencils used in her brow salons.

Urban Decay Essential Eye Tool-$15

You cannot fill in any brow without making sure the hairs are laying down in the correct direction. That’s where this essential eye tool from Urban Decay comes in with a brow brush, spoolie, and comb to keep you beat from brow to lash.

Make Up For Ever Brow Gel -$20

If you don’t have time for detailed filling in and like to keep your brow routine low maintenance, go with a brow gel like this one that will lay hairs down and add just a tad more definition with its deep brown color.

Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil Ultra Fine Shape & Define-$24

Are eye pencils more your thing? Go with this option from Benefit which already comes with a spoolie for shaping hairs on one end and an ultra fine soft pencil on the other for creating natural looking brows with depth.

Urban Decay Brow Box-$30

If you want everything you need for your brows in one place, this Brow Box is your best bet. It comes with two powders for filling in brows, a wax for ensuring hairs stay laid, and underneath is a compartment with mini tweezers, a mini-spoolie, and a mini eyebrow brush so your full arsenal is on you at all times.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Pro Pencil-$18

Once you shape and fill in brows, a touch of highlight will really make them pop. If you’re not yet ready to use concealer for this step or can’t be bothered with the mess, let this pro pencil be your best friend. Apply it under your arch to make your eyebrows stand out more. Bonus: It can also be used to conceal blemishes and as a primer base for eyeshadow.

Usher’s A Blonde Now — Are You Feeling It?

Usher has been bae since “My Way” — or “Usher” if you’re a real diehard. And for the past 20 years that he’s been in the spotlight, Usher’s pretty much had the same hairstyle — a meticulously lined up fade of dark waves that have made women sea sick since their teen years. Well, minus that mohawk fade moment in 2012 and the afro he grew out to play Sugar Ray Leonard in the 2016 flick “Hands of Stone.” But 2017 Usher has switched it all the way up, rocking a head of two-tone curls to the tune of shades of blonde and brown.

The 38-year-old was seen rocking the new look on the red carpet for the SFFILM Festival and was almost unrecognizable without his signature hairstyle. But we have to say the hairstyle fit his very West Coast attire for the San Francisco-based “People You May Know” event.

Usher has yet to share the motive for his ‘do on the ‘gram but it’s safe to say women will pretty much be down for whatever he rocks, including his wife Grace Miguel whom he married during their vacation to Cuba in 2015. So what do you say to Usher’s new blonde look? Are you feeling it?

Wonder’s most recent ex-wife Kai Millard Morris, who is the mother of his sons Kailand, 17, and Mandla, 11, received some of Wonder’s money in spousal and child support.

When Stars Stan: Famous People Who Have Other Celebrities’ Faces Tattooed On Them

You know your fandom or love for a star is real when you profess your adoration for them in a unique way -- like getting a tattoo of their face on your body. But it's not just we everyday people who stan for big stars. Truth is, quite a few celebrities are super fans of other stars, and to show how serious they are, they got some pretty intricate tattoos of those stars' faces. Take Odell Beckham Jr. for example. He loves Michael Jackson so much he got the iconic musician tattooed on his leg recently: https://www.instagram.com/p/BSwkzQKjR4j/?taken-by=obj But of course, he's not alone. Celebrity tattoos are always interesting. From famous folks they were in a relationship with to stars they were just inspired by, check out a few of the stars who showed their love via some interesting ink.

Wale

Check out the Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. tattoos Wale has on his legs. They are somethin' else...

Drake

If Drake doesn't get a tattoo of you on him, he's not a serious fan. Hence his ink for Aaliyah and Sade.

Kehlani

The singer has some ink for Lauryn Hill on her arm, specifically the image of the iconic singer from the cover of her Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album. "My Ms. Lauryn Hill tattoo just reminds me to keep going and to no matter what always keep my head up," Kehlani said. "I grew up listening to her and she inspires a lot of what I do as a singer."

The Game

The Game has quite a few tattoos for people who have had an impact on him. He has ink for Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Travyon Martin and Barack Obama.

Snoop Dogg

The West Coast rap legend honored his late friend by getting a tattoo of Nate Dogg on his arm.

Megan Fox

She may have sat for this Marilyn Monroe tattoo as a means of self-expression, but Megan Fox had a change of heart a few years ago when she decided to get it removed, which she admitted was an extremely painful process. "I was stubborn and thought that I was going to love it forever, or that it would be like a book of my life, all the things that I loved when I was young," Fox said of the tattoo. "It's not that way at all."

Amber Rose

When all was well with Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose happily got the man's face tattooed on the back of her arm. But once things fell apart, Rose had her tat covered up. Smart move.

Zayn Malik

Another star who tried to profess their romantic love through a face tattoo, Zayn Malik had the tattoo for former fiancée Perrie Edward covered quick, fast and in a hurry.

Rob Kardashian

It was understandable to get a tattoo for his late father, Robert Kardashian, but the one for Kris Jenner (on his forearm), had people scratching their heads.

Safaree

Safaree Samuels had multiple tattoos of former long-time girlfriend Nicki Minaj. When their relationship ended, he slowly but surely had them all covered up.   Images via Twitter and Getty (PF)

Maria Borges And Jasmine Tookes Cover ELLE’s Top Models Issues

Maria Borges has been modeling, as in, officially signed and hitting the catwalks, since 2012. However, it took Borges stepping out in a very interesting way for her to move from being seen as just any other model of color to being an It Girl.

In 2015, the Angolan beauty stomped down the runway for the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show rocking a TWA after years of wearing a flowing weave down the runway. After 20 years worth of shows, Borges was the first woman to appear at a VS Fashion Show with a natural ‘fro. Standing out in such a way has been the best thing for Borges, who has since continued to walk in high-profile shows with her TWA, become the face of L’Oreal and redefine what a model looks like. That’s probably one of the reasons ELLE selected her to appear, along with five other models, on their May issue, which highlights the top catwalk snatchers out right now.

Instagram Photo

Inside the issue, Borges talked about the increase in representation of Black women in the fashion industry. “The fashion industry is here for everyone, [regardless] of color or race,” she said. “When I was growing up, I never saw someone like me, and now the other girls can see someone like them. It’s all about inspiration.”

Instagram Photo

Speaking of representation, Borges isn’t the only beautiful Black woman of color on the cover of the May issue. Jasmine Tookes, also a standout at Victoria’s Secret fashion shows, snagged one:

Tookes spoke openly about what she’d like to do outside of modeling. Her next big goal still has a lot to do with beauty and yes, representation.

“My goal has always been to create my own beauty line,” Tookes told the magazine. “I have such a unique skin tone—when I go on set, makeup artists have to use all different mixes of makeup to match my skin. I’d love to do a line that has tones for everybody.”

Both ladies look fabulous! Check out their covers, along with ones featuring Bella Hadid, Elsa Hosk, Candice Huffine and Hailey Baldwin. They all hit newsstands on April 18.

Australian Woman Gives Birth To A 13 Pound Baby…Naturally

As someone whose encounters with births come from watching a baby story and that video they showed us in high school health class, the idea of child birth sounds pretty daunting to me. And that’s if you have an average sized baby.
So imagine, having a child who is double the size of an average baby, 13 pounds to be exact.

That’s what happened to this Australian mother, Natashia Corrigan. Corrigan, a mother of four now, gave birth to Brian Liddle (You can’t make this stuff up.) in January. Naturally, she said, she was shocked.

She told the Melbourne, Australia newspaper, the Herald Sun, “I’m still finding it hard to believe. But by the end of the term, I was struggling just turning in bed and walking up the stairs at home.”

Liddle is one of the biggest babies ever born in Australia and holds the record for the hospital where he was born.

Corrigan told Yahoo News, “I dreamed of a little fat baby. I’ve always wanted a little, fat baby and I’ve got a big one!”

Brian was born after a 7 hour natural birth. Corrigan said, “Because he was so big it was a bit hard to get him out, and they had to get a few extra staff members to come in and help,” she told Yahoo 7 News. “This is the first pregnancy I’ve got to experience a natural labor, the longest I’ve ever been pregnant, and I’ve got the fat little man that I wanted.”

“It’s hard to get our minds around such a whirlwind of a day,” she said. “I never dreamed we’d get so much love for our BIG baby boy and family.”

How to Take Care Of Your Hair In The Sun

Summer is also wonderful for swimmers since they can hop out of the indoor pool and into the ocean. The hot season is a fun one for your topless rompers and your fabulous giant sun hat wearers as well. But the one thing summer isn’t so great for is your hair. There is a lot of information out there on how to take care of your skin in the sun, but people don’t talk enough about the beating your hair takes when ultraviolet rays are shining down on it all day. Your hair is fragile; if running a straightening iron over it for a few minutes a day can harm it then you better believe that exposing it to the sun for several hours a day, for several months on end, will do a number on it. Here are tips for taking care of your hair in the sun. [caption id="attachment_715509" align="alignleft" width="420"]diet vacation Shutterstock[/caption]

Add a scarf to your hat

On the inside—not the outside. Wearing a hat is a great way to protect the sun from drying out your hair, but some hats can pull at your hair, causing it to break. Wrap a thin scarf around your head before putting a hat over it, to protect your hair from damage. [caption id="attachment_613370" align="alignleft" width="627"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Sunscreen serum

If you want to prevent the sun from drying up your hair, causing it to be brittle and break, try adding serum with SPF in it. Several great brands make their own lines today. [caption id="attachment_709773" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Serums versus oils

If you have natural hair, then you can get away with adding things like coconut and argan oil to it. However, if your hair has been pressed or chemically relaxed, oils will make it look greasy and heavy, and serums are your best option for moisture. [caption id="attachment_703358" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

These are the best oils

Avocado, olive and coconut oil actually help your hair naturally retain moisture. Once they get into your tresses, they help your hair keep some of the water you expose it to during the shower. [caption id="attachment_714938" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

How to use oils with pressed hair

If you have pressed hair and don’t want to add oil when it’s dry, try this: put the oils on your hair after shampooing and before conditioning. The conditioner will help trap the oils into your hair, so they can really get to work before you rinse them out. This way, you’ll get the benefits of the oils, but they won’t stay on after your rinse, making your hair look greasy. [caption id="attachment_701340" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Moisturize at night

Don’t just moisturize during the day, when you’ll be out in the sun. The dry, summer weather wreaks havoc on your hair when you’re sleeping too (that’s why you wake up to strands of hair all over your bed!). When you go to bed, spritz your hair with water and seal it with some sort of serum so it can suck up the moisture during the night. [caption id="attachment_608910" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Know your water

If your tap water is hard water, then this will do more damage than good to your hair. If this is the case, you can still spray water on your hair at night, but put bottled water in that spray bottle. [caption id="attachment_620398" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Showering with hard water

Hard shower water plus summer weather equals dry, weak hair. You obviously can’t shower with bottled water because you’re (probably) not a billionaire. You can, however, condition your hair several times a week—yes, even when you aren’t shampooing—to fortify it against the hard water. Conditioner with shea butter is best. [caption id="attachment_712431" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Know how and when to wash

You likely already know that you shouldn’t shampoo your hair every day since this will dry it out. You should, however, rinse your hair with water every day during the summer. Since your scalp is sweating more, it’s sending salt into your hair, which can dry it out. [caption id="attachment_718285" align="alignleft" width="415"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Add protein treatments

You need these during any season if you have chemically relaxed hair. The relaxation process can weaken your tresses, but the protein treatment can strengthen them. Meanwhile, in the summer, protein treatments can protect swimmer’s hair from chlorine damage. [caption id="attachment_709864" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Wear the right style

Your ends are the most fragile in the summer, but some styles guard them against the elements. Twists, cornrows, and braids are some semi-permanent styles that protect your ends, and buns and topknots are great temporary options. [caption id="attachment_714933" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

Try pressing before chemical treatments

During the summer, your tresses need all the strength they can get so see how your hair responds to temporary pressing via straightening irons. If it holds the look, then skip the chemical treatments. [caption id="attachment_714977" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

When you’re feeling lazy

This is a great time to bust out those head scarves! If and when you don’t feel like treating your hair with serum to survive the sun’s rays just wrap it up in an adorable head scarf. Once you have that on, you can wear a white tank top and jeans and still look dressed up. [caption id="attachment_719500" align="alignleft" width="500"] Shutterstock[/caption]

For severely damaged hair

Try adding aloe vera gel or juice to your hair daily if it’s already terribly brittle, but you cannot avoid the sun. Aloe is just as effective on cracked, breaking hair as it is on skin. [caption id="attachment_715418" align="alignleft" width="414"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Leave-in conditioners are your friend

Use a leave-in conditioner after every rinse. In the summer, you can’t afford not to. And remember, just because you shouldn’t shampoo every day doesn’t mean you shouldn’t rinse once a day. Water is hydrating for every part of your body, including your hair!
